Flames destroyed a house and a firefighter was injured Sunday evening in Winnipeg’s St. Vital area.
Emergency crews went to Southwalk Bay around 7:40 p.m. and found heavy smoke and flames engulfing the house, according to a news release from the City of Winnipeg.
As firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze, they also protected nearby homes from the spreading flames, although one did sustain damage, the release said.
A neighbouring house was temporarily evacuated as a precaution but the release did not say if it was the one damaged.
The fire was declared under control just before 9:30 p.m.
One firefighter sustained a minor injury and was assessed by paramedics on scene. No hospitalization was required, the release stated.
The burned home is a total loss. No information on the extent of the the damage to the second home was provided.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
