Business owner speaks out after anti-Israeli graffiti vandalism

  • May 22, 2026

CAVENDISH, Vt. (WCAX) – The owner of a Cavendish business vandalized with anti-Israeli graffiti is speaking out.

Crews spent part of Thursday morning cleaning up the business.

Vermont State Police say it happened around 2 a.m. Wednesday. A suspect was caught on camera spray painting messages on the two front windows of DG Bodyworks. One message said “Free Palestine,” and another used a profanity in referring to Israel.

Denise Gebroe has run the personal training studio for about a decade and says this is not the first time she has been targeted because of two Israeli flags in the windows.

“I am just a Jewish woman in a small rural Vermont town. I helped the Afghanistan community move into Brattleboro, and I helped them find halal food. I’m a first responder. I don’t deserve this vandalism. No one does. We should all be treated equally. This is unacceptable,” Gebroe said.

Vermont State Police are investigating the incident in collaboration with the Attorney General’s Office as a possible hate crime.
