Tottenham Hotspur 1 – 0 Everton

Everton are the visitors at Tottenham Hotspur for the final fixture of the 2025-26 Premier League season, with a massive threat of possible relegation hanging over the hosts.

But that only comes about if Everton deny them a result today by winning… and West Ham Utd beat Leeds Utd at the London Stadium a few miles away in Stratford.

The chances of an Everton win seem slim if you look at the dreadful record Everton have against Spurs in London, having lost the last four encounters, scoring just one goal while conceding 12!!!

You have to go back to the dim and distant days of the unfairly maligned Carlo Ancelotti, who got Dominic Calvert-Lewin firing on target from close range, his goal winning that soulless encounter behind closed doors during the Covid Pandemic back in September 2020.

Before that, you have to go back almost 20 years to 30 November 2008, when Everton last won at Spurs… under David Moyes!

And coming back to more recent times, The Toffees need to avenge a horrible 3-0 home defeat to Spurs back in October, when the problem was defending corners properly to stop Van de Ven from scoring.

But will David Moyes even go there if an Everton win could mean relegating his old club, West Ham? Far easier and less stressful to oversee another spineless performance to go along with the last six that have seen Everton slip down the Premier League table and drop out of the European places.

Which path will Moyes choose???

Team News

The real Team News is that David Moyes makes one change, dropping Beto for Barry, and putting out what he clearly believes is his strongest team for this season finale, with Idrissa Gana Gueye still out injured, joining Jack Grealish and Jarrad Branthwaite on the sidelines.

For the home side, former Everton favourite RIcharlison — who seems to love scoring against Everton — is in the starting line-up.

First Half

James Ganer kicked off for a Dewsbury-Hall upa nad under that came back but Ndiaye drove forward and won an early corner. But it was played short and ultimately cleared.

Spurs came forward, Iroegbunam strong and then Ndiaye too strong, giving up a dangerous free-kick, headed behind by Tarkowski. Their corner was cleared and Ndiaye beat the ball off Tel, but Dewsbury-Hall fouled Udogie. That set up a very positive Spurs attack, firmly defended by Everton for a throw. That eventually fell to Gallagher who fired into the side netting.

Mykolenko was easily dispossessed, and Spurs tried to work another attack. Rohl cut it out but Barry gifted the ball back to the home side and they pressed forward again, winning another corner. It fell to Danso who smashed it well wide.

An Everton free-kick from midfield would have been good if Ndiaye had properly anticipated the short-side through-ball. O’Brien was called and carded for holding back Tel. From the free-kick, Palhinha at the far post could only spoon it high over the bar.

Another Spurs attack had to be thwarted until the ball bounced up and hit Spence’s hand. This time it was Rohl who meekly gave up the ball back to Spurs. O’Brien clumsily trod on Tel’s foot.

Rohl got a little strong on  Palhinha for another Spurs free-kick. Somehow, Rohl was fouled by Van de Ven who ran into him and went down, rolling around in agony.  Contact looked minimal and he miraculously recovered.

Garner’s free-kick was glanced behind by Tarkowski. At least it was a rare touch in the Spurs area!

Spence got Mykolenko far too easily and Pickford had to parry the ball high and away, until it went behind for an Everton goal-kick and a drinks break.

From a Mykolenko throw, Everton looked to get into the Spurs area but the ball was softly given away again, Tel kindly playing it into touch. Rohl won the ball back but Barry couldn’t hold it up and Richarlison was fouled by Iroegbunam.

Spurs were not attacking with quite the same energy and Dewsbury-Hall was able to steal it off Spence, who fouled him. Everton built something approaching a proper attack until Dewsbury-Hall’s shit was blocked, but Ndiaye went on a mazy dribble and looked to feed Barry, whp watched it out for a corner.

A brilliant Dewsbury-Hall delivery but the Everon heads missed it and it was easily cleared. Everton looked to be doing better but Dewsbury-Hall didn’t see Porro and Spurs surged forward, Palhinha winning a corner. Danso got a free header but it hit an Everton defender, and Pickford gathered the bouncing ball.

Dewsbury-Hall tried to play in Barry but he was on another planet and Spurs picked it up again, but built even more slowly, Ndiaye winning it back and somehow losing it. O’Brien was caught by Richarlison cutting across him.

Garnewr was next to have the ball shamefully whipped off his toes. Spurs attacked with zest this time, Tel lining up a curler that Tarkowski did well to block. A Spurs long throw, by Danso, was worked around until Rohl pushed Gallagher over, for another dangerous free-kick wide left.

Pickford punched away Porro’s delivery. Dewsbury-Hall went down with a head knock that was ignored as Richarlison won a corner. Palhinha’s header hit the post and it came straight back to him. The ball was driven goalward but cleared off the line by Barry. However, it had crossed the line… just, and the Spurs fans went crazy.

Tarkowski was floored in the Spurs area by Bentancur but VAR said that was fine. Into 4 minutes of added time and Spurs were buoyant, Everton in need of a half-time regroup.  Mykolenko was fouled by Spence after a throw-in.

It looked like it would be a classic Moyes 0-0 half… until it wasn’t; Everton losing again at the break, and Spurs looking to avoid relegation.

Second Half

After a 6-minute delay for linesman tech issues, Spurs restarted the game. Mykolenko fouled Spence. Spence and Mykolenko fougt in  the corner, and

Spurrs came back and Spence shot at Pickford, who saved it poorly, shovelling it just behind. The corner maintained the pressure with Porro’s shot deflected behind for another corner.

It was nervy at the back, but Everton eventually cleared, Dewsbury-Hall fouled by Van de Ven. Everton tried to swing the ball in but it came to nothing.  Barry and Rohl committed fouls, and Everton could not keep hold of the ball.

Bentancur took out Garner but Everton played pass the parcel without going anywhere except back to Pickford.  Mykolenko tried to release Barry but failed, and Garner went in strongly on Palhinha. Then Iroegbunam was called for another foul.

Udogie was allowed to advance but Gallagher was blocked. Still Everton finding it hard going forward but Garner was fouled. Nothing came of the free-kick and Spurs advanced instead, requring sold defence.

Cometh the hour, Moyes maketh, the changes: George and Armstrong on. An Everton corner was headed away.  Garner tossed it back in but Spurs still got forward.

Dewsbury-Hall forced a turnover but Iroegbunam was dispossessed. Tel fouled Garner down the wing, Pickford punting it upfield. George showed great verve, Dewsbury-Hallwinning a corner. Armstrong could not beat Spence with his cross back in.

Everton could not do anything meaningful and Ndiaye lost the ball easily. They tried playing it out from the back until Ndiaye took on one too many.

Tel almost ran through but Iroegbunam stopped him. and Everton tried to get it forward, Dewsbury-Hall pinging it through to Barry, but he could not keep hold of it. Time for another drinks break, and changes for Spurs, with little sign of Everton scoring.

Iroegbunam battled with Gallagher, Spurs getting the corner, Kolo Muani firing over. Everton tried to advance but could not hold the ball. They did slightly better until Barry lost it for a Spurs throw. But Everton were just too naive to keep the ball.

Iroegbunam fouled Bentancur and Everton kept losing the ball. Sarr dribbled in and went down but there was no contact and Michael Oliver signalled and Everton free-kick and a yellow card for the Spurs simulator. Everton had still not had a shot on goal in 80 minutes.

Dewsbury-Hall tried to get George free down the left but Porro was too clever for him, as Moyes made a tripple change, including Coleman.

A really nice Everton move into the are saw George try to play it to Beto rather than taking a shot. What a chance, and what a goal that would have been!

From a free-kick, George won a corner, headed clear by Danso. Recycled by Garner, an excellent cross, headed away by Van de Ven.  Everton tried to attack again but Tarkowski was called for a flailing arm as the minutes ticked away.

With West Ham winning comfortably, Moyes was given 9 minutes of added time to turn this shitshow around and rescue his old club. But of course that was never going to happen… was it?

A head injury to Sarr meant even more minutes added on. A Garner free-kick was headed on and just over the bar by Keane — the closest Everton had come to scoring.

It was frantic now as Everton finally were trying to play front-foot football… but it was far too little, far too late. Colemenam, a super ball in, Alcaraz a leaping header but off target.

Alcaraz needed four Spurs players to stop him advancing as the atmosphere became febrile, but Everton were never going to score. Although George with a fantastic play deserved a goal, thwarted by a fantastic save from Kinsky.

Everton came back again, anoher ross in, another header just over the bar, the Spurs fans needlessly nervy as still Everton had not and could not score. It had been all Everton, Ndiaye swingoing in a creat cross headed behind for a corner. That was taken quickly but it was never going to happen and SPurs were finally safe.

In truth, they were safe from the first moments of yet another pathetic display by Everton, with West Ham, who had put their trust in Moyes getting his charges to do them a favour, relegated to the Championship.

Tottenham Hotspur: Kinsky, Spence, Danso, Van de Ven, Udogie (90′ Dragusin), Palhinha [Y:87′], Gallagher, Bentancur, Porro, Richarlison, Tel.

Moyes wants to win to give the Hammers a chance of staying up.

Interesting to see what team he selects to win rather than the common view of which he is accused of picking a team not to lose.

What changes will he make?

Will this be spectacular or spectacularly bad?

I never want Everton to do anything but win but some people I like will be dismayed if Spurs go down. Best for me that we win today and West Ham lose as well. At least then we won’t be a significant factor in either’s demise.

Come on, you Blues! Do it for the ever deserving supporters.

No doubt we’ll rock up and do our usual “let’s make Tottenham look like Real Madrid ” job.

I’ve honestly lost count the amount of times we’ve gone down to Spurs, be it this new stadium or the old Lane, and been slapped over and conceded a shed load.

I remember even the season we finished 4th with a great defence, we got smacked 5-2 on New Year’s Day 2005 if I’m not wrong.

Barry is shite but, if we are 1-0 up, I would rather Beto comes on after 60 minutes.

Every time Barry comes on after 60 minutes, we concede and lose points… Beto coming on will scare an already tired defence.

I declared my decision to stop posting some time ago in frustration at the quality and content of the site. That decision remains but I have to vent my spleen, hence a brief pause.

What a total knob Moyes is. Pretty much shite since we beat Chelsea… Can’t beat an egg. Change things? Freshen up things? Of course not.

Stick in Barry, who has been predominantly woeful, and carry on regardless. I never ever want us to lose, and not today, but, if we do, as I expect, then please, everyone on this site, pile in upon the hapless manager.

I won’t be contributing but I will read the invective with a beer and a wry smile.

Earlier in the season, I would have thought we could get a win here. I just think our heads have gone since the derby. I think we might get a draw, at best.

We’re not clinical enough up front and I think Richarlison will enjoy playing against Keane and Tarkowski, he usually scores.

I’ll be glad when this season is done now. Not that enthused by the players we’re being linked with. Delap looks no better than Barry. Stones is a good player but how many times will he play?

Not just today, this man is a fossil. Boring negative, backward football. He would put a glass eye to sleep.

Thanks for steadying the ship Mr Moyes, but move on please. We need a forward, attack-minded manager, players in their correct positions. Earn a win, not sit see if we can pinch a draw.

Moyes has to get Barry off at halftime as he’s useless having given the ball away every time he’s touched it and then stood on the back post letting the goal in, what did he think he was there for, albeit we defended it poorly and will somebody tell Pickford to use his hands instead of just sticking a leg out.

Everything rests on this game for Spurs, they are a poor side, but putting it all in.

In a match that I originally thought would make zero difference to my Sunday afternoon, I was wrong again.

I predicted a Spurs win due to their situation, but the performance from our players in this first half tells a lot, really.

Absolutely pathetic first half. I can’t watch the second half, I can’t stand the way we play any more.

What on earth do our players and manager do during training sessions? We can’t pass the ball accurately, we offer nothing at all going forward, there is no intent to try and win the game, the manager is clueless and idiotically stubborn.

Not a single shot on target — and it’s a piss poor Spurs team we’re playing against.

I’ve been a Blue Nose for 64 of my 69 years and have never looked forward to a new season less than next season.

If that fraud Moyes is in charge come the start of the season, we are in for yet more soul-destroying dross both on and off the pitch. Please get him out the door.

Mr Moyes. Please explain and justify that appalling shitshow. It is embarrassing to be an Evertonian today. Pathetic. Armstrong comes on and looks like a true class act. Beyond that, all the other performances were a disgrace and (1) the failure to make any changes at half time and (2) the decision to put Barry on the field and, worse still, to keep him on so long is inexplicable. An appalling demonstration of woeful management.
NOT ONE SHOT ON TARGET UNTIL THE 99TH MINUTE. BARELY A SHOT. I am so angry, so disappointed and so depressed to have to watch such a miserable display. Mike and Michael, please explain how to me and so many others just how Moyes can or will take us forward?

Different team with Alcaraz, Armstrong, George and Seamus on.

Players in their right position playing wth energy and intent. It isn’t that hard.

Only stubborn old Moyes can’t see it.

He is an analog manager in a digital age.

My choice as our MotM says it all for me, Armstrong.

One of the commentators wondered how much Moyes would be given to improve the team, I thought it shouldn’t be any more than his bus fare, I wouldn’t even call him a taxi.

Maybe its deliberate as we don’t look like we can handle 38 games never mind the Euro ones as well.

I feel for the poor sods who went to watch that. They were cheated of their hard earned money.

We have no proper full backs. I’m not looking for Trent Alexander Arnold, just someone who can play a forward pass accurately and overlaps and cross a bit.

We play with absolutely no pace whatsoever. Our players are slow and play slowly. Our strikers are the laughing stock of the premier league.

I think what summed it up for me was the ‘school of science’ kick off. Back to KDH to literally give it an up and under. Talk about accepting you don’t have the skill to play football, just hoof it high in the air and hope.It is nigh on being anti football.

I know Barry is the whipping boy but fuck me what do we create? Ndaiye shite again,. A defence that can’t keep a clean sheet, the midfield was absolutely pathetic yet again today, no wonder we don’t score any goals, and I’m sorry but we have made fuckall progress this season, weve been served up some of the most dreary impotent shite I can remember in a long time. and to think before the Derby we were right in the mix for Europe but 2 points out of 21 is pathetic from this team and club, any te we have any chance of anything we shit ourselves and fuck it up, Sunderland Bournemouth and Brighton qualifying for Europe and we finish 13th, unacceptable from the manager players and club

Mike #23,
“…we have a financially stable club with a qualified management team for the first time in years.”

It’s a bit too soon to make the claim that they’re qualified to run a PL football club. In the same way you’ve asked other posters not to criticise them so early into their ownership, they need time to prove that they’re capable of leading Everton before you praise them.

Four best players on the pitch, Armstrong, Alcaraz, George and Seamus, that tells you everything about Moyes team selection again, and Please Darren Hind, don’t reply, because I mentioned Coleman! No wins in seven, and he still picked the same formation, how he looked at Barry for 84 minutes is unbelievable, Moyes has to go.

Steve 77 # Spot on mate.

I have given Moyes some slack but after this I’m tightening it.

Why Beto and George were not on from the start is a mystery, Barry was awful and needs shipping in the Summer, he is just not up to the Premiership standard.

Armstrong, George, Charlie and Seamus made such a difference but the subs should have been at half time.

West Ham deserved better from us but their downfall has been their fault during the season, but most of all our travelling fans should have their ticket and travel costs reimbursed after that show.

Hopefully some of us can go on holiday and try and forget about the end of the season. I think we all need some therapy after the last three games where we have been truly, truly awful.

Get Glasner in before someone else snags him. This is a golden opportunity for Everton Football Club to move forward, If TFG don’t see that Kinnear and Moyes are not top notch footballing professionals, then I wonder how they are any better than Kenwright or Moshiri? In Kenwright’s defence he never had enough money, and Moshiri built this magnificent stadium for Everton. What do TFG really want ? What is their vision and what are their ambitions? I have no idea.

Wasn’t it lovely for all the people who were just so happy to see us going into the last game of the season without any fear of being relegated, until the match started and it became apparent that we have made absolutely no progress whatsoever this season.

A cowardly approach but some of us must be very careful over what we are wishing for, simply because there is no way that West Ham, would have been getting relegated today if David Moyes, was still there manager.

A big summer awaits but whoever decided to sign Barry, simply can’t be allowed to make any more footballing decisions. What a sad, embarrassing and ultimately shameful performance today.

Alcaraz is probably one of the most forward thnking and skilful players we have ( from what I have seen ), and Moyes never gives him a chance – maybe hasn’t got the engine nor defensive head on him but for fucks sake, this game was a no brainer.
Even though I predicted a loss today’s management of the game clearly showed why Moyes has got to go – he hasn’t a fucking clue – hammers fan will rightly be pissed.

Look we owed West ham absolutely nothing, their predicament is down to them and them only.

As for Moyes you absolute c**t, that defence has continued to ship goals yet he continues to pick it, his treatment of Alcaraz and Armstrong sickens me I’m currently on holiday in Greece 🇬🇷 and didnt bother today because I knew what side hed pick.

Can’t believe I’ve defended this dinosaur of a manager but no more.

Probably the least said about this match would be better. Others will comment more forcibly than myself. Except this game was not in isolation but part of a terribly disappointing last few weeks.
Moving on swiftly to next season & the crucial transfer window. What can we expect? Of course DM has found himself a summer job & will focus on the World Cup rather than day to day Everon involvement. Does the famous committee take over the reins in his absence? Are plans in place? Have players have agreed to join? Or is there nothing yet? Excuses for a lack of activity being formulated Post Spurs game. World cup a problem, difficult market, top clubs not yet finished their recruitment etc etc. We shall have to see.
In my honest opinion I believe the real question lies with the owners.
What is their appetite both from financial & Football perspectives. Is staying in the PL enough for them financially? From a football viewpoint no-one associated with Everton can be happy with what has been dished up. Negative, boring & by season end failing. However we are still in the PL.
Is that enough for Dan & co? If so then keep Moyes & even give him a longer contract. Buy/ loan seasoned professionals who will do the job. If it is not enough then they will need to get the checkbook out, make the expensive recruitment committee earn their money & look for a more ambitious coaching team who wants to entertain, score goals & attack.
Finally somewhere there must be ambition to match the brand new stadium. Just saving ourselves from relegation every season, failing in every cup & missing out on Euro nights can’t be the pinnacle of our achievments. Or can they?

No show for 80 minutes then had a go to cover his approach.

Something along the lines of “we had a right good go,we had a responsibility to the other relegation threatened team ”

I only saw the last twenty minutes but was up to date listening to how docile, crap and uninterested in trying to win this game before the 80th. minute I thought the subs livened the team up, George and Alcaraz pressing and taking players on, Armstrong getting and using the ball and Seamus playing like a proper full back and getting a few centres in— Spurs looked like the very poor team they have been this season and didn’t know how to defend, panicking and giving fouls away right left and centre, Imagine if we had played like this from the beginning or put the subs on 30 minutes earlier.

Moyes treated WHU with contempt with that attitude and performance by his selection and style of play and he treated us Everton fans, especially the ones who travelled down to London today, with even more contempt.

I’ve never liked Moyes as an Everton manager and I hope Everton fans next season don’t have to put up with him and his old fashioned style of football—- he should be gone very quickly and be announced on Talksport as Everton’s former manager.

Moyes should be sacked for the simple reason, we hadn’t one shot on target in the first half, and sent out the same team for the 2nd half, absolutely clueless. How Armstrong, George and Alcaraz have played so little under Moyes is shocking, even Seamus burst a gut for the little time he was on. I don’t give a shit about West Ham, but we only played when he made the changes in the 84th minute. We haven’t won in seven games, and how he sticks to his formation and tactics, and his clueless use of subs is appalling. I’d love to see Glasner or Areola here now, and change things in the summer, but when our owners don’t even turn up, what are the chances of that.

Everton FC has a very ‘British’ culture about the club.
A core of yard dogs as players
A manager whose methods are outdated and stale.
Look at the coaching staff, all british.

Change the culture, change the mindset, change the mentality otherwise keep doing what we are doing in making up the numbers and flirtations with relegation.

There is no hope for the future if TFG allow Moyes to stay in charge of out great club.

It doesn’t matter how large our summer transfer budget is, it will be wasted by having a waster in charge.

The man belongs in a museum, not a dugout. Seriously what progress has been made this season?

Moyes managerial methods haven’t changed in his entire career, they aren’t going to change now. As the Philippines are 7 hours in front of UK time, I went to bed 20 minutes into that game. That’s how bad it was.

If TFG leave the dinosaur in charge for next season, then I will lose all faith in them. It will make me believe they are only here for the money they can make from Everton.

Get Moyes out now and let him take Tarkowski and Keane with him.

For 90% of this game we were gutless, spineless, whatever word you want to use. It highlighted our lack of quality at th eback in midfield and upfront. The tactics if we had any were don’t over commit stay back and absorb their attacks.I have defended Moyes but that performance today was unacceptable and He has to take the majority of the blame, his team selection and his tactics were awful.

I know the club have decided not to let Gana Gueye play 1 more game as it would automatically invoke him getting another year extension, but if Iroegbunam is his replacement we are in serious trouble. Rohl worked hard but isn’t a wide player same as O,Brien isn’t a full back, thought Spurs dominated midfield and upfront we cant have Barry anywhere near this team and Beto is no more than a useful sub. Tarkowski and Keane lack pace so restricts us being able to press teams high up the pitch. I though George looked good when he came on against Sunderland and also did well when he cam eon today, but his loan spell is over and he is now a Chelsea player and cant see them letting come on anothe rloan deal. Ndaiye hasnt played well for a couple of months maybe he has been tapped up or maybe because of the treatment to his pal Gana Gueye not getting an extension has upset him.
Just glad the season is over if TFG get rid of Moyes he only has himself to blame had he been brave enough Europe was in our reach. Although apart from Iriola or Pochettino after the World Cup I cant think of to many options that excite me

Its a worry we employ professional footballers yet were had the professional pride gone !!! A stinking disgrace, no pride, no hunger and no concience ffom a squad of mercaneries. This was a free hit for Moyes yet he sets up to do what exactly, I gave my season ticket up the season before he left us the first time, I am now on the 12k plus waiting list but tp be fair I have no desirre to try and get a season ticket until this antifootball dinasour is gone!!! Do we really want to trust Moyes with a transfer kitty !!! We need 21st Century coaches and approach to the team. At 63 I have seen the glory days but doubt I will see them again in my life time
