WASHINGTON (TNND) — Some GOP senators raised concerns over the weekend about President Donald Trump’s potential peace deal with Iran.
Over the weekend, Trump announced that deal with Iran that would include opening the Strait of Hormuz had been “largely” negotiated.
The Associated Press reported that the potential deal involved opening the Strait of Hormuz, the war ending and Iran would give up its stockpile of uranium, and talks would continue for over 60 days.
“I am deeply concerned about what we are hearing about an Iran “deal,” being pushed by some voices in the administration,” Texas GOP Sen. Ted Cruz wrote on X, later adding he was concerned that Rob Malley was praising the deal.
South Carolina GOP Sen. Lindsey Graham also listed his concerns regarding the potential deal.
“If a deal is struck to end the Iranian conflict because it is believed that the Strait of Hormuz cannot be protected from Iranian terrorism and Iran still possesses the capability to destroy major Gulf oil infrastructure, then Iran will be perceived as being a dominate force requiring a diplomatic solution,” he wrote in a lengthy post on X.
Mississippi Sen. Roger Wicker said that the rumored 60-day ceasefire would be a disaster for the U.S.
“The rumored 60-day ceasefire — with the belief that Iran will ever engage in good faith — would be a disaster,” he wrote. “Everything accomplished by Operation Epic Fury would be for naught!”
Trump fired back at his critics on TRUTH Social, saying they were “losers.”
“It isn’t even fully negotiated yet,” he wrote on TRUTH Social. “So don’t listen to the losers, who are critical about something they know nothing about.”
