The Green Party has announced that Sarah Wakefield will be its candidate in the Makerfield by-election.
Wakefield, a councillor on Manchester City Council, was chosen after the Greens’ first candidate, Chris Kennedy, withdrew from the race.
The poll, which will take place on 18 June, comes after Labour MP Josh Simons announced he was standing down.
Wakefield said it was “vital in a democracy that voters are given a choice of who they want to vote for”.
