President Donald Trump said Friday that the U.S. naval blockade on Iran will be lifted as part of what he suggested was an impending agreement to end the war.
In a lengthy post on Truth Social, Trump said he would soon decide whether to move forward on a deal with Iran, potentially bringing an end to the conflict after weeks of stalemate.
“I will be meeting now, in the Situation Room, to make a final determination,” Trump said in the post.
He also said the U.S. would extract Iran’s enriched nuclear material, which he referred to as “nuclear dust.” Trump has repeatedly made such claims in recent weeks, even while Iran insisted it had not agreed to such an arrangement.
Iran must agree to never obtain a nuclear weapon and to immediately reopen the Strait of Hormuz, Trump added in the post. Ships caught in the strait, a major artery for global petroleum transport, “may start the process” of returning home, he said.
Trump also said that no money will be exchanged until further notice and that “other items, of far less importance, have been agreed to.” He didn’t elaborate on what those items are.
Reports of a proposed memorandum of understanding between the two nations have been circulating for days, without official confirmation from either side.
