WWE Clash in Italy LIVE BLOG & MATCH COVERAGE
Mutations cooked in labs, money-mad experiments, new food and medicine? New germs and accidents! ike Cubatao, “world’s most polluted town,” air melts your face, deformed children all around. Bio-technology ain’t what’s so bad, like all technology it’s in the wrong hands. Cut-throat corporations don’t give a damn when lots of people die from what they’ve made, but me? I’m just here to liveblog this here pro wrestling show for you, folks.
The show opens with Michael Cole welcoming us to the show and explaining for those of you who don’t own a shelf of historical atlases and who can’t hand-draw a rough map of Italy before, during, and after the Napoleonic Wars exactly where Turin is.
The usual montage of talent arriving at the arena follows, including Brock Lesnar repping Megadeth by way of his t-shirt, which would be disappointing to me if it weren’t for the fact that, as a Megadeth superfan, I have to live with it being Dave Mustaine’s show in the first place.
(I love Dave and got to talk to him on the phone once– I won a contest on the official Megadeth message board before some of you were born–, but he’s the most contrarian contrarian to ever disagree with what he thinks is the mainstream opinion at the current time.)
(Yeah I’m feeling a little chatty today, what of it?)
An intro video for the show follows.
GUNTHER makes his entrance for our opening match.
Commentary introduces themselves and, because this show is in Italy, the Italian commentary team at the desk beside them.
“American Nightmare” Cody Rhodes makes his entrance and we get things going.
“American Nightmare” Cody Rhodes (c) vs. GUNTHER (WWE Undisputed Men’s Championship)
Wristlock, arm wringer, GUNTHER slips out and backs Rhodes into the corner as “Let’s go GUNTHER!” chants ring out. Break forced, now the “Cody, Cody Rhodes!” singing chant offers a counterpoint, Test of Strength, the Ring General putting Cody on his knees with ease. Rhodes fights to his feet and GUNTHER rams him into the corner and breaks dirty with a chop!
Referee Dan Engler admonishes him, and the Ring General just wades in with another chop! Whip across, Rhodes slides under, drop down slap, springboard… GUNTHER DROPS HIM OUT OF MIDAIR WITH A CHOP! Another chop, a cover for two, Gojira Clutch attempted, Cody slings him off with a snapmare so the challenger just boots him back to Dream Street!
GUNTHER with a wristlock, Rhodes punching away and the Ring General pulls him in with a shoulder block to drop him! Right hands, off the ropes with an elbow, up and over, Cody follows that with a snap scoop powerslam and he’s fired up! Bionic Elbow, underhooks, Pedigree connects… NO DEAL!
Huge dropkick from the Ring General, huge lift on the Tenryu Powerbomb but Rhodes kicks out! Diving splash, Cody gets the knees up, Beautiful Disaster connects, Cross Rhodes follows… SO CLOSE! Back and forth, GUNTHER gets the Gojira Clutch locked in! Falling back to the mat, he eschews the bodyscissors in favor of rolling over and putting his weight on Cody’s back!
Back to his knees, stepping over to sit on his back, Rhodes stands up, GUNTHER hanging in there, a senton breaks the hold momentarily but the Ring General goes right back to the Gojira Clutch in the middle of the ring! Cody flagging, failing, fading, his arm waving, Engler keeping a close look at him, Rhodes gets his eyes open and gasps only for GUNTHER to roll him back around and grind his face into the mat… CODY GETS A FOOT ON THE ROPES TO FORCE THE BREAK!

Post-match, GUNTHER is upset and confused about the cover and commentary goes over the footage and discovers that the Ring General had his foot under the ropes at the beginning of the count and Cody’s adjustment was to pull his foot away from the plane of the ropes!
GUNTHER argues with Dan Engler for a bit before spitting on the floor and storming out.

“Samoan Werewolf” Jacob Fatu makes his entrance first ahead of our main event.
And of course, Roman Reigns makes his entrance to get things going.

Out into the crowd, Jacob with headbutts, smashing Roman’s face into a riser and then into the back of some chairs. The end up at a concession stand and Reigns blasts Fatu in the face with a bucket of ice!
He tosses some kind of box of snacks into the crowd, over to some more stairs and the Samoan Werewolf puts Roman face-first into a railing! Back toward ringside, throwing Reigns over the barricade, but the OTC cuts him off against the barricade and then smashes his face into the ringpost!
Reigns goes under the ring and gets a table, sliding it into the ring, but that gives Fatu time to recover and smash his face into the apron and the steel steps! Top half of the steps in the ring, Roman wakes up and punches Jacob back to the floor before picking up the steel steps… AND CHUCKING THEM OVER THE ROPES AND AT FATU’S HEAD!

Off the ropes… SUPERMAN PUNCH COUNTERS THE DIVE! Reigns goes under the ring for plunder, considering his options before pulling a toolbox out! As Fatu pulls himself up with the Italian announce desk… ROMAN SMASHES HIS HAND WITH THE TOOLBOX!
He dumps the tools out and smashes Fatu’s hand again, this time on the steel steps! Back inside, Reigns sets up the table from earlier, leaning it against the corner! Smashing Jacob’s hand, calling for it… JACOB COUNTERS WITH A CORNER BODY AVALANCHE AND FOLLOWS IT WITH THE ODE TO UMAGA! Back in the ring, another spear… FATU KICKS OUT! Roman talking trash, saying you don’t see the Usos out here, he doesn’t need any fuckin’ help, he can beat anyone on his own and he does this because he loves you guys. Tearing a pad off one turnbuckle, then the next, then the only other one not covered by the table right now.
Jacob pops up and puts the Tongan Death Grip on but his hand is hurting too bad to keep it on! Superman Punch, Fatu shrugs it off! Another one, same result, Roman smashes him into two exposed turnbuckles, off the ropes… THE SAMOAN WEREWOLF IS FASTER ON THE DRAW AND HITS THE SPEAR TO COUNTER THE SPEAR!

Post-match, the Usos come out and slide in the ring to anoint Roman Reigns with the garland of the Tribal Chief.
Roman leaves the ring eyeballing Fatu with a “well now you’ve GOT to acknowledge me” expression. Jacob manages to pull himself up by the ropes and Reigns pauses.
He sees Solo Sikoa and the MFTs standing behind the barricade and tells the Usos that they’re next, he’s got something for them.
Fatu leaves the ring and also looks at the MFTs.
“Main Event” Jey Uso breaks from the pack and claps and points until Jacob gets the “you leave with us now” message.
Roman says now they know who the Head of the Table and Captain of the Ship is.
That’s the show, folks.
What was the Match of the Night at WWE Clash in Italy?
