A suspected unexploded bomb has been found inside a flat in Southport this afternoon. Emergency services were called to Balfour Road in Southport following the discovery of a suspicious item inside a flat just after 12.30pm today, Tuesday, June 2.

The suspicious item had been found the property on Balfour Road was being cleared. As a precaution, police closed surrounding roads and residents have been evacuated. A cordon remains in place and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) have been called to assess the device, police said.

Motorists and pedestrians are advised to avoid the area while emergency services deal with the incident.
