WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. House of Representatives voted Wednesday, June 3, to force an end to the conflict with Iran, passing a war powers resolution 215 to 208.
It’s the first time either chamber has passed such a measure since the war began more than three months ago.
Four Republicans broke with their party to support it.
Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine, who is spearheading the push in the Senate, said the vote reflects growing opposition to the conflict.
“The President is nervous that he’s losing more and more and more Republican votes,” Kaine said. “I don’t think he really cares about Congress, but what he is learning from this is the reason why Republicans are voting against the war is because it’s so deeply unpopular.”
The resolution now heads to the Senate. Even if it passes, President Trump can still choose to veto it.
