Opposition Leader Sussan Ley will visit South Australia on Wednesday to witness the devastating impact of the state’s algal bloom, a week before Prime Minister Anthony Albanese intends to make his first inspection.

As the crisis deepens and the state braces for the possibility its beaches will be closed over summer, Premier Peter Malinauskas is demanding the federal government declare the event a natural disaster, which would automatically unlock more funding, including to help the fishing, tourism and other affected industries.
