Police say Tuesday afternoon’s incident at a central Edmonton apartment building involved a man with multiple edged weapons allegedly threatening people inside a suite.
The Edmonton Police Service says an officer fired their weapon at the 42-year-old suspect once a “confrontation occurred” between him and another resident.

The suspect was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police say, and no officers or apartment residents were injured.
Alberta’s police watchdog, the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT), has been directed to investigate the incident.

On Tuesday around 3:15 p.m., Edmonton police say officers were called to the building on 102 Avenue and 121 Street for reports of a domestic disturbance, specifically a man inside a suite wielding edged weapons and threatening others.
Photos and videos sent to CityNews show an officer on a fire truck ladder holding what appears to be a firearm pointed towards one of the balconies.
Witnesses say they heard two loud bangs. Moments later, at least one person was seen taken away in handcuffs, and another on a stretcher.
