A 21-year-old woman died on Saturday when workers at a bungee jumping event pushed her from a bridge without her being strapped to a rope, causing her to drop 130 feet into a ravine below.

In the wake of her death, a chilling social media post she shared before her death has been uncovered. The incident occurred on ‘Skeleton Bridge’ in Limeira, São Paulo, Brazil. Maria Eduardo Rodrigues de Freitas was carried onto the platform by two men before being shoved from the edge.

The video circulating online shows Maria didn’t have any rope attached to her and plummeted 40 meters straight into a canyon. Bystanders can be heard in the background of the video shouting that she didn’t have any safety equipment for her jump.

Maria was pronounced dead at the scene by attending medics, and six people connected to the event have been taken into custody: five men and one woman. Just hours before the tragedy occurred, Maria had excitedly posted about the upcoming jump to her social media platforms.

In a series of posts, the woman from nearby town Jandira, revealed the location of the bungee jumping, as well as showing her identification bracelets braced for the jump.

She also took picture of the company representatives who would later be responsible for throwing her off the ledge untethered., reports The Sun.

In one of her chilling last posts, Maria shared a photo of the company banner, writing: “Who was the crazy person who let me jump off a bridge?”

According to Brazil’s Military Police, a witness reported that employees from the company simply forgot to secure the rope before Maria was launched from the platform.

Authorities report that two men immediately fled the scene following the accident and were later located in a wooded area with assistance from local police.

The video circulating on social media platform X has horrified viewers, with many being outraged at the lack of checks.

One person wrote: “It’s not a safety rope. That implies it’s there ‘just to be safe’. This is literally THE ROPE. It’s the entire reason she tried to do this. It is the ONLY requirement of this entire thing. You had one job. One. And failed.”

Another penned: “They literally launched her off a bridge without triple checking if the MOST important part was attached. I call that murder.”

“No attachment. No double-check. No ‘wait is the cord actually on her?’ Moment. Just lift, swing, launch and watch her drop,” said another before adding: “That’s not an ‘accident’. That’s criminal-level negligence. The rope was right there. They walked past it. They handled her. They still threw her.”

Following the tragedy, Limeira City Hall announced plans to sue the Federal Government over what officials described as negligence involving Ponte de Esqueleto (Skeleton Bridge).

According to the city administration, responsibility for inspection, maintenance and access control at the bridge belongs to federal authorities.

City officials said they had repeatedly requested safety measures in the area before the incident, but “no concrete action has been taken”.
