Your guide to what Trump’s second term means for Washington, business and the world
Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin will discuss “economic co-operation” as well as the war in Ukraine and global security issues at their summit in Alaska on Friday, the Kremlin said.
Yuri Ushakov, the Russian president’s foreign policy adviser, said Putin and Trump would have a one-on-one meeting at 11:30am local time, before holding talks with delegations including five officials on each side.
The summit will be the first top-level US-Russia meeting since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Moscow believes there is “enormous, untapped potential for trade and economic co-operation between Russia and the US”, Ushakov said, according to state newswire Tass.
The Russian delegation includes finance minister Anton Siluanov and Kirill Dmitriev, Putin’s special envoy for economic co-operation, as well as foreign minister Sergei Lavrov, defence minister Andrei Belousov, and Ushakov, he added.
