VINTON, Va. (WDBJ) – A resident was injured, and 59 cats were found dead in a house fire Sunday, June 21, according to Roanoke County Fire and Rescue.
Firefighters say they responded at 4:56 a.m. to the 200 block of Gunn Ave for reports of a residential structure fire with heavy fire coming from the front of the building.
The fire was extinguished within 10 minutes, according to firefighters.
The injured resident was transported to Roanoke Memorial Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
Two people, one cat, and one puppy are displaced and receiving aid from the American Red Cross.
Firefighters say estimated damages are $100,000.
