It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that Jeremy Corbyn is scathing in his reaction to Starmer’s resignation.
After all, it was his successor as Labour leader who chose to boot him out the party in 2020.
According to Novara Media, Corbyn’s spokesperson said: ‘Keir Starmer ends as he started: with lies.
‘Corbyn turned Labour into the largest party in Europe, built and funded by half a million people who believed in social justice and peace.
‘Starmer swapped political principles for corporate donors – and leaves behind a legacy of broken pledges, grotesque inequality and complicity in genocide. If that isn’t moral bankruptcy, then what is?’
But what does Corbyn think of the man who’s almost certain to step into Starmer’s shoes as PM?
Andy Burnham served as the then-leader’s shadow home secretary before stepping down in 2016 to focus on his run for Mayor of Greater Manchester.
Speaking to Sky News at the weekend, Corbyn said he gets along well with Burnham but accused him of ‘accepting too much of the austerity that we’ve had imposed upon us’.
And in an interview with the Guardian, Burnham said it had ‘gone beyond’ the time when Corbyn could be welcomed back into Labour.
