The UK will have secure power supplies this winter despite the disruption to energy markets from the Iran war, according to the National Energy System Operator.
Britain will have a buffer of spare generation capacity equivalent to 8.8% of peak winter demand from November to April, Neso said on Tuesday. That’s similar to the last two years and higher than during the 2022 energy crisis caused by Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, but slightly below the margin of 10% last winter.
