CLINTON CO., Iowa (KWQC) – Investigators identified the body of who they believed to be the longest unidentified Jane Doe in Iowa Monday.
Jane Doe 1975 was identified as Cheryl Lynn Edwards, 15, from Waukegan, Illinois, according to a media release.

In April 1975, Clinton County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a deceased female in the Mississippi River, north of Clinton.
The young female victim remained unidentified despite extensive investigative efforts when she was discovered. An autopsy determined the cause of death to be homicide.
Officials said investigators continued to work to identify the victim throughout the years. Edwards was identified more than 50 years after her body was found through forensic genetic genealogy.
Members of Edward’s family had been looking for her since her disappearance and deputies said they have been notified of the identification.
The investigation is active and ongoing.
