The City of Pickering and the Town Ajax have concluded the process of exploring options on what to do with their partial ownership of Elexicon.
In July 2024, the municipalities announced that they would begin entertaining bids for their portions of Elexicon.
They launched a Request for Proposal (RFP) to evaluate their options for continuing, changing, or possibly selling their ownership in Elexicon.
Pickering owns 27.9 per cent of Elexicon, while Ajax owns 21.8 per cent. Together, their shares make up just under 50 per cent of the company.
The remaining shares are owned by the municipal governments in Whitby, Clarington and Belleville, who have said they would not be selling.
On Friday, the city and the town issued a joint statement
“Today, the City of Pickering and the Town of Ajax notified Elexicon Corporation of our decision to conclude our Request for Proposal (RFP) process that had explored options with respect to our continued partial ownership of the utility. This notification formally concludes the process, which was initiated in July 2024.”
This means they are officially closing the file.
