Ross McCrorie has joined Scottish Premiership side Rangers for an undisclosed fee.
Joining City from Aberdeen in summer 2023, the defender leaves after three seasons at Ashton Gate in which he made 89 appearances, scored eight goals and provided seven assists.
McCrorie’s memorable brace against Preston North End on City’s final league game of the 2024/25 season helped the Robins secure a place in the Championship play-offs for the first time in 17 years.
Developing his craft at Rangers as a youngster, the Scotsman returns to his boyhood club and returns home with City’s best wishes.
McCrorie said: “It has been an amazing three years at City and I want to say thank you to the fans who have supported me from the beginning. We got to share some special memories together and they will always stay with me – especially securing the play-offs on that afternoon at Ashton Gate.
“I would also like to thank the Lansdown family who brought me to the club and especially for their support through my injury at the start of my City career – I will never forget that.
“Bristol City will always have a special place in my heart as I now move back home.”
While at City, McCrorie also achieved a career highlight of being named in Scotland’s final 26-man squad for the 2024 European Championship in Germany.
Making 41 appearances in all competitions in the 2025/26 season, McCrorie was voted Player of the Month for December by supporters.
Sporting Director James Ellis said: “Ross departs with all our best wishes, and we look forward to following his career as he heads home to Scotland.
“He is a top professional and has been a brilliant servant to our club over the past three years and we thank him for his fantastic contribution.”
