Reports suggest the move is now off, with the Wales boss now not moving to Turf Moor

Craig Bellamy’s proposed to move Burnley has reportedly fallen through in a huge late twist.

The Wales head coach had looked destined to join the Clarets, who had agreed a compensation fee believed to be around £700,000 with the FAW.

Burnley are believed to have been eyeing up a move for Bellamy for a while, and launched an official approach last week.

Talks between Bellamy the club had seemingly accelerated in the last few days, and it seemed to be a matter of time before he would be confirmed as Scott Parker’s successor.

Indeed, sources had indicated everything was in place for the move to be confirmed.

However, Sky Sports have now claimed the move is off, in what feels a seismic late twist.

The development will come as a huge shock, and the reasons for the move falling through are not entirely clear.

However, the FAW were certainly preparing for Bellamy’s departure, with Steve Cooper and Rob Edwards among the list of possible contenders drawn up to replace him.

Ironically, Sky Sports has now claimed both Edwards and Cooper are potentially in the frame to take over at Turf Moor.

Bellamy now looks set to return to his job as Wales boss, and has two years left to run on his current deal with the FAW.

At the beginning of the month, he had reiterated his commitment to leading Wales into the upcoming Nations League and Euro 2028 campaign, before seemingly being tempted by Burnley.

Celtic were another club believed to be sniffing around, but Bellamy said at the time: “Everything’s in place, I get completely backed and it’s going to give me the opportunity in the next two years to improve again.

“Links? I understand it but I don’t look too far. I love what I have here.

“I’ve been offered that elsewhere as well, but I have this here already. Wales gave me this opportunity and one or two might not have because I was conscious I haven’t managed before. Wales have given me this opportunity and I’m really grateful for that.

“I am ambitious, trust me. I want to earn loads and loads of money but there’s a time and now, at this present moment, it just doesn’t feel that time.”
