Ireland’s roads have claimed 103 lives so far this year, and one in three of those was a pedestrian, cyclist or e-scooter user. It’s a toll that reminds us just how dangerously unprotected the country’s most vulnerable road users are.

The official publication of the Independent Review of Roads Policing, the Crowe Report, confirms what leaked findings had already made clear: some gardaí in roads policing openly admitted ignoring traffic offences and doing as little as possible, even under the gaze of independent investigators, without fear of sanction.
