Emergency services rushed to the scene of a “freak accident” in Rosslare Strand, Co Wexford on Tuesday evening, which saw a car mount a kerb, smash through fencing and trundle over a crazy golf course before colliding with a padel court.

Thankfully, nobody was seriously injured during the course of the incident which took place just before 6 p.m. at the busy seaside resort.

A group of children had reportedly vacated the crazy golf course not long before.

The driver of the car, a woman reportedly visiting the area, was left shaken but grateful that nobody had been hurt, although there was a considerable amount of damage to the amenities in the height of tourist season.

“It was just a freak accident,” one onlooker said. “I’d say the woman didn’t realise that the car was still in drive and it took off through the fence and across the little crazy golf course before smashing into the padel court there.

“Luckily there was nobody walking on the footpath or playing on the little course at the time.”

A post from the Rosslare Strand Facebook page confirmed that nobody had been injured, but stated that padel court 2, the hard court and the crazy golf course in the strand would remain “closed until further notice for health and safety reasons”.

“We appreciate your understanding and cooperation while we ensure everything is safe for use again,” the statement concluded. “Also, a huge thank you to the emergency services today.”
