“If or when information becomes available that we are able to share, we will respond accordingly.” she said.

As of Friday afternoon, Chirico is still listed as a member of the police board.
Coun. Jamie Lowery has requested Chirico step down from his role on the North Bay Police Services Board after The Nugget confirmed $16,000 in personal expenses were billed to the city’s corporate credit card.

Chirico said he has paid them back. A payment plan was proposed for $6,000 back in March 2024; however, it’s unclear if that was followed and how the remaining $10,000 was paid.

The police service stated in a media release issued Friday morning that they are unable to respond to any requests for information regarding a specified individual in accordance with the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act or provide advice on whether a matter warrants a criminal investigation or further investigation.

“However, the NBPS can confirm that police services have a responsibility to conduct investigations into complaints or reports of criminal activity,” according to police.

“Due to an institutional conflict of interest, any complaint or report pertaining to a member of the North Bay Police Services Board would be referred to another police service for investigation.”
