Poll: Most Vermonters oppose war with Iran, disapprove of Trump

  • June 30, 2026

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – About three-quarters of Vermonters believe the U.S. decision to attack Iran was wrong and that the country is headed in the wrong direction, according to a new poll from the UNH Survey Center.

The data shows 76% of Vermonters surveyed said the U.S. was wrong to attack Iran, while 20% said the attack was justified, and 3% had no opinion.

Trump’s approval rating among Vermonters follows a similar pattern. Twenty-seven percent of those surveyed approve of his performance as president, while 71% disapprove. The top reasons reported for disapproval include poor character, undermining democracy, and corruption.

On the question of national direction, 73% of Vermonters said the U.S. is headed in the wrong direction, compared to 24% who said it is on the right track. The results split along party lines — 71% of Republicans said the country is on the right track, while only 2% of Democrats said the same.
