Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reports that the San Jose Sharks are nearing a five-year deal with Mason Marchment. It is a five-year, $33.75MM contract carrying a yearly cap hit of $6.75MM per a team announcement.
The deal adds both size and production to the Sharks’ top six who had a gap to fill after trading William Eklund to Ottawa for the No. 9 pick (Keaton Verhoeff) back on June 23rd.
Marchment, 31, is coming off of a season split in two. Dealt from Dallas to Seattle prior to the 2025-26 season, Marchment posted 13 points in 29 games with the Kraken before a December trade to Columbus. As a member of the Blue Jackets, Marchment was revived. During his 39-game tenure, Marchment spent the majority of his time on a line with Adam Fantilli and Kirill Marchenko, and tallied 15 goals and 32 points.
The Uxbridge, Ontario native will find no shortage of talent when he arrives in San Jose, having the opportunity to play with the likes of Macklin Celebrini, Will Smith, and Michael Misa. Marchment’s style of play should complement the young, highly skilled players on the Sharks’ roster.
Additionally, the signing also has a personal dimension to it. Mason’s late father, Bryan Marchment, played six seasons for the Sharks and later worked in the organization as a scout and in player development.
Through 370 career games, Marchment has 95 goals and 234 points, and San Jose will bank on that production as it continues to build around its impressive young core.
