Pettigo sheepdog trialist Alistair Lyttle and his dog Twm made history at the recent Irish National Sheepdog Trials when they delivered the maximum score of 220.

Lyttle earned two spots on the Irish team for the upcoming World Trials, following a standout performance with his two dogs, Mick and Twm.

On Thursday, 7th August, Mick delivered an exceptional performance, securing third place and finishing eighth overall.

The following day was extra special when Twm reached the perfect score for the first time in over 100 years of irish and British sheepdog trial history.

“He has always been a very consistent dog, but on this particular day he did something very special,” Lyttle said. “He got behind his sheep and worked tremendously from start to finish.” This remarkable effort led to a third-place finish for Twm in the run-off on Saturday, earning him a spot on the Irish team.

“A proud moment for myself & my family,” said Allistair.

The final results of the Singles events were dominated by Donegal competitors – James Pat McDaid from Glenswilly in first place with his dog Roeldog Becca becoming Irish National Champion 2025, followed by Kilcar’s Paul O’Donnell and dog Joe, and Allistair Lyttle and Twm.

The Irish national team will compete at the International Sheepdog Trials in Wales in September.
