US President Donald Trump’s special envoy to Syria, Thomas Barak, announced that Israel and Syria have agreed to a ceasefire – after several days of confrontations between the Druze and President Ahmad al-Shara’s regime forces, during which Israel attacked regime targets. “Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Syrian President Ahmad al-Shara, with US support, have agreed to a ceasefire,” wrote Barak, who also serves as the US ambassador to Turkey, on X. According to him, “The agreement is supported by Turkey, Jordan and their neighbors.” He added: “We call on the Druze, Bedouins and Sunnis to lay down their arms, and together with other minorities to build a new and united Syrian identity, while establishing peace and prosperity with their neighbors.”
