Iranian media reported attacks on bridges and an airport in the country’s south on Thursday after the US military launched another wave of strikes against targets in Iran.
The Fars news agency, which is close to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, said the Kahurestan and Gariveh bridges in Hormozgan province had been hit, citing the provincial administration.
At least two people were killed and at least four others were injured in the bridge attacks, Fars said.
State broadcaster IRIB reported that Iranshahr airport in the south-eastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan had also been hit.
At least one projectile struck the airport, according to Press TV. Fires caused by the attack had since been extinguished, but the airport remained without electricity, an IRIB correspondent said. No deaths were reported.
US military launches sixth night of strikes
The US military had launched attacks on Iran for a sixth consecutive night, its regional command CENTCOM said on X. The wave of attacks lasted almost eight hours, it said in an update.
US forces, including fighter jets, aerial drones, and warships, launched “precision munitions that hit dozens of Iranian military targets” such as coastal surveillance and air defence sites, military logistics infrastructure, and maritime capabilities, CENTCOM said.
“At the Commander in Chief’s direction, CENTCOM is further degrading Iranian military capabilities and holding Iran accountable for recent attacks on commercial shipping,” it said.
“More than 50,000 US service members are operating across the Middle East and remain vigilant, lethal, and ready.”
US President Donald Trump threatened to destroy all power stations and bridges on Tuesday. He made similar threats in April, when he warned that Iran’s bridges and power plants could be destroyed within hours to pressure Tehran into reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for global oil and liquefied natural gas trade.
Kuwait reports Iranian attacks as sirens sound in Bahrain
Meanwhile, Kuwait’s air defences again had to repel Iranian missile and drone attacks, the military said on Friday.
The Kuwaiti armed forces said explosions heard over the country were the result of air defence systems.
Sirens also wailed in the US-allied Gulf state of Bahrain, the Interior Ministry reported.
According to state broadcaster Press TV, the Iranian military said it had carried out retaliatory strikes in response to the US attacks. A helicopter base and a US military reconnaissance aircraft in Bahrain were reportedly targeted.
Press TV also reported that US radar installations and missile launch sites in Kuwait were set on fire. US facilities in Jordan were also allegedly targeted again. The broadcaster’s claims could not be immediately verified.
Kuwait and Bahrain have been targeted in Iranian retaliatory attacks and reported incoming fire on previous nights. The United States maintains military bases in both countries and several other Gulf states.
