A land swap and security guarantees to end the Ukraine war have been “negotiated” and “agreed”, US President Donald Trump has said following talks with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Alaska.
“Those are points that we negotiated and those are points that we largely have agreed on,” Trump said in a Fox News interview with Sean Hannity soon after the summit in Anchorage on Friday.
He was responding to a question about how he thought the war might end – whether it would involve land swaps, expanded Russian territory and US security guarantees for Ukraine outside of Nato.
Trump said many points were negotiated “on behalf of Ukraine and on behalf of the whole Nato situation”.
“The meeting was a very warm meeting,” he said of his three hours of talks with Putin. “We’re pretty close to a deal.”
“Ukraine has to agree with it. Maybe they’ll say no,” he added.
