MADISON, Wis. — Madison Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway and Police Chief John Patterson are expected to provide an update Thursday after a police officer shot and killed a man on the city’s near-east side.

A Madison police officer shot and killed a man in his 30’s Wednesday afternoon at the intersection of Williamson and Baldwin streets. Police said the man was armed with a knife and injured one of the four officers who were trying to detain him.
Police said the man was seen “checking vehicles” in the Marquette neighborhood prior to the shooting.
