8m agoSat 19 Jul 2025 at 11:27am60′ NO TRY: TMO denies Australia
Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii has scored for the Wallabies.
HANG ON. The TMO is checking this.Â
Suaalii took a crash ball and was hit three metres from the line.
He hits the ground, but the tackler has not completed the tackle.
There is a mass of players and the drive from Australia gets Suaalii over the line.
Surely, Suaalii was held at some point. There were other Lions who then got their hands on the ball, while the Wallaby was on the deck, and that would constitute a tackle.
The TMO and the ref have decided there was a tackle.
Lions survive.

52′ Wallabies miss a chance
Great defence from the Lions.
Poor execution from the Wallabies.
The home side had a line-out, 15 metres away from the Lions’ goal line.
The Wallabies take the ball off the line-out and take a run down the left flank.
But the Lions defenders were not only waiting for the tackle, they were prepared to hold up the ball carrier.
The Wallabies cannot get the ball out of the breakdown, the the tourists are awarded the scrum.

Why do the reserves warm-up in the goal area?
Feels like they’re getting a bit loose with letting the reserve players hang out in the try areas?
– n
It’s very common for the European players to warm up in the in-goal, and almost inside the playing surface..
Most of their grounds do not have the 15-metre run-off at the end of the dead-ball line, like most grounds in Australia.
It is a habit, and as long as it doesn’t disrupt play, which it hasn’t, it’s fine.
30m agoSat 19 Jul 2025 at 11:04am42′ TRY: Dan Sheehan scores for the Lions
It is a disaster for the Wallabies.
They had the line-out, 40 metres from the Lions’ goal line.
But the throw from Matt Faessler is too long, and the Lions have the ball.
Tom Curry gets an offload away which leads to a big linebreak up the middle of the park.
The Wallabies are able to hold on for two more phases, but their defensive line is in tatters.
Hooker Dan Sheehan scores in the right corner.

Why was Tom Curry not shown yelllow?
Why wasn’t that tackle on Tom Lynagh in the air worth at least a yellow card? It’d just about be a red in Super Rugby. Are the international rules that different?
– Derek
G’day Derek.
It’s a fair question.
I am OK with it not being a yellow card, because the degree of danger was very low.
However, in previous years, or on another day, it could easily have been a sin bin offence.

Wallabies surround referee Ben O’Keeffe at half-time
On the stroke of half-time, the Wallabies were awarded a penalty for a dangerous tackle.
Flyhalf Tom Lyngah was in the air, and was hit by by Lions flanker Tom Curry.
Referee Ben O’Keeffe did not believe the tackle was dangerous enough to warrant a sin bin.
That is probably a fair call, as Lynagh’s foot was an inch off the ground.
But the Wallabies have surrounded the Kiwi ref, almost certainly asking why Curry was not shown a yellow card.
47m agoSat 19 Jul 2025 at 10:47amHT: Lions 17 leading Wallabies 5
Half-time has been called.
The British and Irish Lions lead 17-5.
The Lions were by far the better team in that first half.
Defensively they are sound, and in attack, their ablilty to break the first tackle and offload is hurting Australia.
52m agoSat 19 Jul 2025 at 10:43am36′ TRY: Tom Curry scores for the Lions
The pressure from the Lions was too much, in the end.
The Lions took the tap kick from five metres out.
The tourists had two phases, then flanker Tom Curry went for the pick-and-drive, got over the line, and grounded the ball.
Finn Russell’s conversion is successful.

26′ Both captains warned after a push and a shove
There is a bit of passion at Lang Park.
A few of the big boys have converged for a push and a shove.
Nothing serious, but referee Ben O’Keeffe would rather the lads just play footy.
1h agoSat 19 Jul 2025 at 10:22am19′ NO TRY: TMO denies Lions in controversial moment
Lions outside centre Huw Jones has scored the second try.
We have a TMO check.
Jones was tackled short of the line, then got up and scored the try.
The TMO is checking whether the tackle on Jones had been completed by the Wallabies winger Max Jorgensen.
The TMO says the tackle was complete, meaning that before scoring, Jones needed to release the ball.
He did not.
The Lions fans are not happy.
It is a margin call that will be controversial in the eyes of some.
Wallabies survive.

18′ Wallabies get a little momentum from Lions mistakes
For what feels like the first time in the match, the Wallabies are inside the Lions’ half of the field.
The tourists hurt themselves, with a ball kicked dead, followed by a knock-on from a kick, giving the Wallabies a chance to build some phases.
The Lions’ defence was exceptional.
The Wallabies had around 10 phases, but made, at best, 10 metres.
A turnover in the ruck and a clearing kick ended the Wallabies raid there.
