The north of the UK is likely to face rain on Monday, with maps showing rain reaching Northern Ireland, Scotland, and the north of England.
The latest forecast from the Met Office said rain could start as early as today (Sunday, 26 July) as a period of changeable weather continues. These new forecast come come days after the country experienced scorching heatwaves with temperatures soaring to as high as 35C for three consecutive months.
According to the forecaster, Monday “will be cloudier with further showers or longer outbreaks of rain,” but the southern parts of the UK will experience much drier and sunnier weather.
Met Office chief meteorologist, Dan Suri, said: “After a prolonged spell of hot, dry and settled weather, some will see a temporary change this weekend as weather fronts move south-east across the UK.
“While some areas, particularly in the north and west, will see rain and showers, many places are likely to receive relatively little rainfall.
“For much of southern England, dry conditions are expected to remain the dominant feature, with temperatures recovering quickly next week and the potential for very warm or locally hot weather to return.” The weather is set to change again towards the end of July and the beginning of August when a new heatwave is expected to hit.
So far, the UK has already experienced three heatwaves this year, with temperatures reaching scorching highs of 35C during periods in May, June and July.
