Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow thunderstorm warning for three counties following a weekend of sunshine.

The national forecaster has issued the warning for Cork, Kerry and Limerick from 9am on Monday until 6pm.

Potential impacts may include lightning, power outages, localised flooding and difficult driving conditions.

This afternoon is expected to stay dry for the rest of today with good spells of sunshine for most. It will be cloudier in the southwest with isolated showers or patchy light rain possible

Temperatures will not fall below 12 to 17 degrees in light easterly breezes with a few mist and fog patches developing.

Tomorrow, cloud will build over much of Munster, south Leinster and south Connacht through the morning with showers developing, turning heavy at times with thunderstorms likely.

It will continue dry with hazy spells of sunshine elsewhere. Highest temperatures of 19 to 24 degrees, warmest in the midlands and west, in light to moderate easterly breezes.

The coming days will bring further showers, especially in the southwest, before becoming drier into midweek as temperatures “fall back slightly but continue above average for the time of year”, the forecaster said.

Sunny spells and scattered showers are expected on Tuesday, mainly hitting the southwest while Ulster will see the driest conditions as highs range between 18C or 19C in the east to 23C or 24C in the west.

Isolated showers will continue into Tuesday night, with both Wednesday and Thursday looking largely dry with a mix of cloud, sunny spells and some showers.

Highs of 17 to 22C are expected, but Met Éireann says there is a “good deal of uncertainty” in the forecast for the end of the week.

“Current guidance suggests another largely dry day on Friday. Possibly more in the way of rain and showers developing during the weekend,” they said.
