Two people are in critical condition after their vehicle lost control and struck the overpass on southbound Deerfoot Trail in southeast Calgary Sunday.

Calgary police say it happened at around 1:30 p.m. on Deerfoot Trail at Cranston Avenue, approaching Seton Boulevard.

Officers say one of the two occupants was ejected from the vehicle in the incident.

The two in critical condition have been rushed to the hospital.

Closures are in place in the area and will likely last for several hours as the traffic unit investigates, according to police.

Those are for the southbound Deerfoot Trail between Stoney Trail and Cranston Boulevard/Seton Boulevard SE, and their respective ramps.

Calgary police are asking motorists to avoid the area until roads reopen.
