Caught on camera: Man captures dramatic moment when shark attacked him

A diver’s dramatic encounter with a shark was captured on video as he was spearfishing in Fiji.
In a video that Henry Gibbs posted on social media, a grey reef shark can be seen making semicircles below the surface before surging toward him and attacking on July 19.
Gibbs, a New Zealand-based ocean enthusiast and content creator, said the shark latched onto his calf and began “death rolling.”
“Four surgeries and a skin graft later, it’s looking like I’ll make a full recovery, which I’m hugely grateful for,” Gibbs wrote in a social media post.
He said he feels lucky that he didn’t lose his leg.
Gibbs said there were a handful of grey reef sharks in the water at the time.
“I never thought a shark of that size posed much of a threat, and that was a mistake,” he said.
All in all, he said he hopes others learn from his mistake that could’ve been much more serious.
“No hard feelings towards the shark. I was in its environment hunting its food. Wrong place, wrong time,” he said. “And there are definitely a few lessons I’ll share when I post the footage in the hope it helps someone avoid ending up in the same situation and a bit on how to respond to it.”
