Ballistic missiles also rained down on Kyiv, killing a 31-year-old man and wounding two others. The missiles struck residential buildings, a market, a garage and storage facilities, officials said.
The attacks occurred shortly after Volodymyr Zelensky, the Ukrainian president, returned from the US, where he said Donald Trump had agreed to give Ukraine licences for Patriot air-defence missiles.
Ukraine used the incident to push for more deliveries of Western air defence systems, arguing they could be used to defend Europe against incoming Russian missiles.
“We are talking not about charity, but about pragmatic solutions to improve our shared security,” Andrii Sybiha, the Ukrainian foreign minister, said after a phone call with his Polish counterpart Radak Sikorski.
