Manchester United’s pre-season preparations are about to go up a notch this weekend, taking on proper elite European competition in Atletico Madrid. Now, Michael Carrick’s squad for the trip has been confirmed.
Finally, after over a week off, Manchester United are back in action this weekend, facing a very good Atletico Madrid side at the Strawberry Arena in Stockholm.
This follows United thrashing Rosenborg 5-0 in Norway last week, thanks to sublime academy players such as Harry Amass, Jacob Devaney, and Shea Lacey.
United lost to Wrexham in the pre-season opener, but since then, things have clearly improved. Now, we expect the best performance yet against Atletico, and here is the squad Carrick has to do it with.

Goalkeepers: Altay Bayindir, Tom Heaton, Dermot Mee, Radek Vitek.
Defenders: Harry Amass, Dan Armer, Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu, Ayden Heaven, Jaydan Kamason, Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, Leny Yoro.
Midfielders: Jack Fletcher, Tyler Fletcher, Mason Mount, Andrey Santos, Jim Thwaites.
Forwards: Amad, JJ Gabriel, Shea Lacey, Bryan Mbeumo, Ethan Williams, Joshua Zirkzee.

We are at the stage of pre-season where those involved in the World Cup are starting to return, and Amad is the player who makes his full return against Atletico.
Amad had a great World Cup individually, and he will be eager for this to be carried into United and to make 2026/27 his best season in red so far – after a disappointing campaign last term where he scored just twice.
Amad was joined in training by Altay Bayindir, Youri Tielemans, and Senne Lammens, who are all great additions to Carrick’s squad. But the latter two only returned to training on Thursday, which is a tight turnaround.
While Amad may not start, he will almost certainly get minutes, and he will be keen to make a point and show Carrick how good he is.
