DeLand police search home in investigation into shooting deaths of 2 friends
DELAND, Fla. —
A search warrant was served Saturday night in connection with the double-murder investigation into the killings of two childhood friends found shot to death behind a DeLand theater, officials said.
The DeLand Police Department, with the help from the Volusia Sheriff’s Office SWAT team and the FBI’s Safe Streets Task Force, executed the warrant at a residence on Loughton Street around 10:30 p.m.
That street appears to be about three miles from where the two young men were found dead.
WESH 2 reached out to DeLand officials to learn more about the search and what they found. We were told in an email they “plan to release the list when we can.”
Two men shot, killed in DeLand
On July 29, after 10 p.m. DeLand police officers responded to the area of 213 W. New York Ave. after receiving a 911 call about two people who appeared to be dead on a vacant industrial property behind a local theater.
Police said Dustin Rose, 19, and Samson Campbell, 18, were found with multiple gunshot wounds and pronounced dead at the scene.
>> The image below is a surveillance photo from the last time the two victims were seen around 6 p.m. on July 28. On the left is Dustin, and on the right is Samson.
Rose is from DeLeon Springs and had been living South Carolina where he was a student at the Citadel and a member of South Carolina Army National Guard.
Campbell is from DeLand and recently moved to Chicago.
Both victims grew up in Volusia County. We’re told they were in town to spread the ashes of a beloved family dog.
In a statement sent to WESH 2, Rachel Rose, Dustin’s mother, said she found their bodies after not hearing from the men for hours. She said she looked for them all day before calling 911.
No motives or suspects have been determined, police said.
The case remains active and ongoing. Anyone with any information regarding the investigation is asked to call the DeLand Police Department at 386-626-7400.
