A man has been charged with attempted murder following a stabbing in the Northern Quarter. Officers were called out to Church Street at 12.50pm on Friday (July 31).
Greater Manchester Police says a 19-year-old man had been stabbed. A 21-year-old man was later arrested in connection with the incident.
In an update issued this afternoon (Sunday), Greater Manchester Police confirmed he had since been charged. Bandar Alzahar, of no fixed address, has been charged with attempted murder and possession of a bladed article in a public place.

He has been remanded in custody ahead of an appearance at Manchester Magistrates’ Court tomorrow (Monday). Enquiries remain ongoing, GMP says.
A force spokesperson added: “The victim in this incident remains in hospital in a stable condition but with life-threatening injuries. We are still asking for information from anyone that may have witnessed the incident on Church Street to get in touch with us, this includes any CCTV, mobile phone or Dashcam footage that may assist our enquiries.
“This can be submitted by calling us on 101, quoting log 1580 of 31/07/2026. Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
