TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (D-Toledo) was taken to an area hospital to get checked out after a hit-and-run crash in Toledo on Sunday morning, authorities tell 13 Action News.
Police said two people were taken to the hospital to get checked out for injuries they described as non-life-threatening. Kaptur, 80, was among those injured, according to officials at the scene.
A statement from Kaptur’s Congressional office said she’s active, alert and being treated for her injuries.
A spokesperson said Kaptur was heading to a church service when the vehicle she was riding in was struck. She was a passenger in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
“Congresswoman Kaptur is thankful for the quick actions of first responders from Toledo Police and Fire Departments who arrived promptly on scene, and the medical professionals helping to take care of those involved in the crash,” the statement from Rep. Kaptur’s office read. “She expressed her deep gratitude to the hundreds of constituents who have reached out and looks forward to returning to a full schedule soon.”
The crash happened around 10:45 a.m. on N. Detroit near Central Ave.
A Toledo Police spokesperson said the investigation is in its early stages. Details about what led up to the crash or what followed have not yet been disclosed.
TPD described the crash as a hit-skip. It’s unclear whether a driver who took off from the scene has been located at this time.
The statement from Kaptur’s office said they look forward to learning more from police as they investigate the crash.
