Wasa, Ta Ta Creek under evacuation order

Wasa and the surrounding area is under an evacuation alert due to the Wait Creek wildfire that has blown up to 160 hectares as of the Aug. 1 evening.
An Emergency Support Services (ESS) reception centre has been set up at Parkland Middle School in Cranbrook (1115 2nd Ave S). Any campers can check in with ESS and parking is available at Moir Park and Western Financial Place if they need a place to stay overnight.
Earlier in the afternoon, the RDEK issued a tactical evacuation for residences in the Ta Ta Creek neighbourhood due to the new wildfire start.
Search and Rescue have completed notification within the Ta Ta Creek portion of the Order area and are now moving to the Wasa / Lazy Lake areas.
Highway 95A is closed in the area of the fire and Highway 93 is closed from just south of Wasa to the junction.
“The Wait Creek Wildfire has experienced growth fueled by winds today and this is an incredibly dynamic situation,” reads a statement from the RDEK.
Firefighters and resources are currently responding to four new fires at this hour and this is an emerging situation.
Four new fires were reported on Aug 1. and are in various stages of control as of 10 p.m.
The other fires are located:
N11356 – NW of the Koocanusa Bridge / RDEK Boat Launch. Crews and aviation are responding.
N21358 – in the Skookumchuck Creek area near Farstad Way. Crews and aviation are responding.
N21362 – Fairmont Area (Coys area). Suppression activities are underway / crews are responding.
