Durning Road in Wavertree remains cordoned off following the incident

A cyclist has been taken to hospital following a three-vehicle crash at a Wavertree junction. The crossroads between Durning Road, Crosfield Road and Nuttall Way remains cordoned off tonight, Sunday August 9, following the crash between an electric bike, a blue van and a white Seat Arona.
The man on the bike suffered a serious head injury and was taken to hospital. The drivers of both the van and the car are helping police with their enquiries.
The incident happened just after 12pm today. As of 7pm, Durning Road remains closed in both directions between Nuttall Way/Crosfield Road and Wavertree Road. A number of police officers could be seen at the scene.
Online traffic monitor INRIX reports “traffic is coping well” in the area, while the AA Roadwatch reports some queuing on Wavertree Road and Tunnel Road as vehicles are diverted.

A Merseyside Police spokesman said: “We are appealing for information following a collision in Wavertree today, Sunday 9 August.
“Just after midday we received a report of a collision involving an electric bike, a blue van and a white Seat Arona on Durning Road at the junction of Tunnel Road.
“The man on the pedal bike has been taken to hospital with a serious injury to his head. Drivers of both vehicles are helping police with enquiries.
“Road closures are currently in place in the surrounding area and motorists are advised to avoid the area while emergency services deal with the incident. Thank you for your patience.”
