A Co Down man allegedly grabbed a little girl “by the throat and threw her on the sofa,” during an argument over bedtime, a court heard today.
Standing in the dock of Downpatrick Magistrates Court, 34-year-old Ashley Davidson confirmed he understood the three charges against him, all said to have been committed on August 13 this year.
Davidson, from Frederick Street in Killyleagh, faces two charges of common assault and one of attempting to damage a door.

Giving evidence to the court, a police officer said he believed he could connect Davidson to each of the charges.
He outlined how police were called to an address in Killyleagh after the girl’s mother reported the incident.
The court heard claims that when Davidson was arguing with an eight-year-old girl about going to bed, he “lifted her by the throat and threw her on the sofa.”
There were also claims that Davidson stood over her, shouting that she was a “little *******.”
The girl’s mum told the defendant he would have to leave but as he did, he “tried to rip an internal door off its hinges”.
District Judge Amanda Brady granted bail in the sum of £250, barred Davidson from Killyleagh and adjourned the case to Thursday, August 21.
