A Montreal man has been charged after allegedly making death threats toward Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.
Marc Porlier, 51, appeared at the Montreal courthouse on Aug. 8 and was charged with uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.
According to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, which led the investigation, Porlier made the remarks in an email sent to a senator and others.
The RCMP launched the investigation on Aug. 5 and arrested Porlier soon after, the police force said in a statement Monday.
“The RCMP takes seriously any threats that can affect one’s sense of security. Violent statements will not be tolerated,” it added.
