Enzo Maresca has promised Manchester City will “do something” in the transfer market before the window closes on September 1, potentially leaving the door open for a renewed move for Enzo Fernandez.
Chelsea have insisted the Argentina midfielder is no longer available after Friday’s deadline to submit a £120m bid passed without an offer being made. But following Sunday’s 3-0 defeat by Arsenal in the Community Shield, Maresca suggested City are still planning to strengthen before the transfer window shuts.
“For sure, we are going to do something before the transfer closes,” he said. “We knew already before the game the things we needed to do. Not because we lost the game. We are quite clear what we need to do.”
Chelsea’s deadline may have passed, but the transfer window remains open for another fortnight and Maresca’s comments suggest they could yet test Chelsea’s resolve by returning to the negotiating table.
