HONOLULU (Island News) – Thousands of Hawaiian Electric (HECO) customers remain without power on Monday morning as Tropical Storm Lala moves away from the state.
HECO crews made progress in restorations overnight and continued to work on repairs throughout areas of Hawaii Island, Maui, and Oahu.
A total of 117,120 customers remain without power as of 11 a.m. on Monday. Extensive damage has been confirmed on Hawaii Island’s power transmission system as well.
As of 11 a.m. on Monday:
Hawaii Island: 41,190 customers remain without power. The majority of the outages have been reported in the Puna area, North and South Kona, North and South Kohala, Hamakua and South Hilo.
Maui County: 6,780 remain without power. In Upcountry Maui, transmission work is in progress and damage assessments are ongoing in areas like Kula, Alaluana, Olinda, Pi’iholo and Haiku. Crews are also working on remaining outages in West Maui, Central and South Maui, East Maui, Moloka’i and Lana’i.
Oahu: About 69,150 customers remain without power as crews continue to make restorations in Windward, Leeward and Honolulu areas.
“Hawaiian Electric acknowledges the challenges of being without power for more than a day and assures that crews are working as quickly and safely as possible to repair damages to restore all customers,” stated HECO.
