A weekend outing with a trusted babysitter in Atlanta ended with police tracking a baby’s cries from a trailer to find two missing sisters, WSB-TV reports. Four-year-old Zola Cooper and 11-month-old Norah Cooper were located Monday morning at a southwest Atlanta apartment complex, after their mother reported that babysitter and friend Lakesha Brown never brought them back home as planned after taking them for an outing Saturday night.
Police say Brown sent texts to the girls’ mother claiming they’d been in a crash on I-285 and taken to a hospital, but the girls were not found at any medical center. Detectives eventually searched the complex after receiving a tip, followed the sound of a baby, and discovered Brown with the children, who were taken to a hospital and are expected to be fine. Charges against Brown are pending; she also has an outstanding warrant in Alabama, police said. That case involves the suspected kidnapping of a 4-day-old baby in 2021, Fox 5 reports.
