An off-duty police officer died Tuesday in what investigators are calling a “domestic incident” in Worcester, and authorities are searching for a woman in connection with the investigation, according to the Worcester Police Department and Worcester County District Attorney’s Office.

Police were called to a home on Wildwood Avenue in Worcester around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday.

“Upon arrival, we found a deceased male, later determined to be an off-duty police officer for Worcester PD,” said Worcester Police Chief Paul Saucier.

The president of the Worcester Police Union confirmed that the victim is 57-year-old Patrolman Kurt Solomon. Solomon had 31 years with the Worcester Police Department and leaves behind two adult sons.

“We are currently searching for a female, Karen Solomon, who is presumed to be armed and dangerous,” Saucier said. “We are actively searching for this person now.”

Investigators said Solomon, 58, has dark brown hair and brown eyes and was last seen wearing pajama shorts and a tank top.

Authorities said Solomon was last seen on foot, walking toward Westcott Street.

Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early said local, state and federal agencies were involved in the search for Solomon.

“You got a person in the neighborhood, in the area, presumed to be armed and dangerous. You want to do everything you can to find that person as quickly as possible, and also find out exactly what happened at the house that evening,” Early said.

Anyone who sees Solomon is asked to contact police and not approach her.

At about 3:30 p.m., a large law enforcement presence was seen near Worcester’s Coes Reservoir, which is less than a mile away from Wildwood Avenue. Officers with guns drawn in a Worcester Fire Department boat were seen surveying a small island behind buildings along the Mill Street side of the reservoir. It was not immediately clear if that activity was connected to the search for Solomon.

From Sky5 earlier in the day, investigators were seen at a gray and white ranch-style home on Wildwood Avenue. A white crime scene tent had been set up in the backyard.

The incident is under investigation. The DA’s office confirmed that they would resume a search for Solomon on Wednesday.
