Another day of searching ends for Karen Solomon, woman sought in death of Worcester police officer husband

WORCESTER, Mass. —
The search for a woman considered armed and dangerous after her off-duty Worcester, Massachusetts, police officer husband was found dead at their home was suspended Thursday afternoon and is expected to resume Friday.
Police found Worcester Police Patrolman Kurt Solomon, 57, dead at the residence on Wildwood Avenue early Tuesday morning. Solomon had 31 years with the Worcester Police Department and leaves behind two adult sons.
Officials are looking for Karen Solomon, who is presumed to be armed and dangerous. Investigators said Solomon, 58, has dark brown hair and brown eyes and was last seen wearing pajama shorts and a tank top.
Police returned Thursday to Coes Reservoir, which is close to where she was last seen. Massachusetts State Police marine units, state police helicopters and a local police unit with dogs trained to detect bodies in water were all at the scene. The search ended Thursday afternoon with plans to resume on Friday.
Worcester police released video on Wednesday that appears to show Karen Solomon outside the Westside Animal Clinic just before 6 a.m. on Tuesday. In the video, she has her hair in a ponytail and is wearing flip-flops.

On Tuesday, Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early said local, state and federal agencies were involved in the search for Karen Solomon.
“You got a person in the neighborhood, in the area, presumed to be armed and dangerous. You want to do everything you can to find that person as quickly as possible, and also find out exactly what happened at the house that evening,” Early said.
Anyone who sees Karen Solomon is asked to contact police and not approach her.
Karen Solomon is the co-founder of First H.E.L.P., an organization dedicated to increasing awareness of mental health challenges within the first responder community.
In a statement, the organization said, “Our first concern is for the officer who lost his life, his family, his colleagues, and the Worcester law-enforcement community. We extend our deepest condolences to all those affected by this tragedy.”
The group said its board of directors “is focused on maintaining the continuity, integrity, and independence of First H.E.L.P.’s mission, programs, and services to the first-responder community and the families we serve.”
