Talks between the presidents of Ukraine and Russia, preparations for which were announced by the White House, could be held in Hungary, a senior U.S. administration official told Reuters.
Moscow has not yet publicly confirmed its agreement to such a meeting.
On August 18, after meeting with the Ukrainian president and European allies, President Donald Trump announced that preparations were underway for a face-to-face meeting between Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who joined the White House talks, said the meeting between Putin and Zelensky is expected to take place within the next two weeks.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has pressed for continued cooperation with Russia and opposed military aid to Ukraine. He has traveled to Moscow to meet with Putin, and has also visited Kyiv for talks with Zelensky.
